How could he entertain himself this evening? A man who had managed to sell his life for one hundred thousand yen once would surely be able to sell it again.
Hanio was in no mood to do anything as mundane as having a drink. On a sudden impulse, he took out a stuffed toy mouse with a funny face from the cupboard. Some time ago, a girl who made this kind of handicraft has presented it to him as a gift.
The mouse had a pointed snout, like a fox, with a few wispy hairs at the tip of its nose. It was a rather commonplace design, with tiny eyes made from black beads. One curious feature was that the mouse was clad in a lunatic's straitjacket: a strong white sheet bound both his paws together tightly against his chest so that they couldn't budge an inch. On the front of the jacket were some words written in English: "Beware: patient prone to violence."
Hanio put the mouse's inertness down entirely to the straitjacket. Taking his reasoning to its logical conclusion, he decided that the very ordinariness and nondescript nature of its mousy face was actually proof of its lunacy.
"Right then, Mousikins." His words elicited no response. Maybe the mouse had a misanthropic streak.
This was not exactly the moment to dwell on the difference between country and city rodents, but he had the feeling this was a mouse from the sticks that had been tricked by some sly Tokyo cousin into changing its abode and had ended up getting crushed under the huge pressure of life in the big city. Worn down by its meaningless solitary existence, it had ended up developing a propensity to violence.
Hanio decided to share a leisurely evening meal with it. He sat the mouse on the opposite side of the table, tucked a napkin into the top of its straitjacket, and left it there while he prepared the meal. The demented mouse sat bolt upright as it waited.
After giving some thought to what he might serve the mouse, Hanio prepared bits of cheese and small pieces of steak that it could nibble easily with its sharp teeth. He also made a portion for himself and sat down.
"OK, Mousikins. Grub's up. Don't stand on ceremony."
Despite his encouragement, there was no reply. Apparently the demented mouse also suffered from an eating disorder.
"Hey, why no eating? After all the effort I put into the cooking, don't you like it?"
Sure enough, no reply.
"Maybe you need some music playing while you eat. You like your luxuries, don't you? Let me put on a quiet piece that might be to your taste."
He got up from the table and put Debussy's "La Cathedrale engloutie" on the stereo. The mouse remained sullen and tight-lipped.
"You're an odd one. You're a mouse, so you should be able to eat without using your paws."
No reply. Hanio suddenly flew into a rage. "So you don't like my cooking? Right then, this is what you get." He knocked over the small plate of steak and shoved the mouse's face into the food. The shock sent the mouse tipping back effortlessly over his chair onto the floor.
Hanio picked the mouse up in his fingers. "What's this? Are you dead? Doesn't take much to kill you. You're pathetic. Well? What have you got to say for yourself? Don't expect a proper funeral. I doubt you're even worth a single night's wake. You're just a mouse, an ordinary little mouse. Why don't you simply shrivel up into a husk in some filthy hole. You were absolutely worthless while you were alive. You're equally worthless now you're dead." Picking up the dead mouse, he threw it back into the cupboard.
He sampled the tiny slices of steak left by the mouse. They tasted delicious, like meaty sweets.

Everyone looked at the Ka, then were feeling really dubious regarding Kat’s comment. Maybe Kek didn’t see the Ka’s full form before, but the snake attacking him had certainly looked more realist than whatever was that. He couldn’t hold his laugh while Marik didn’t know if he should feel scared of the snake or not because of how goofy it was.
The ground suddenly shaked, making everyone jump, but it didn’t last more than two seconds and nothing else happened.
“Why do I feel like this had nothing to do with the game…” Marik said.
Indeed, he wasn’t wrong. In the real world, it had been the equivalent of Bakura slamming their head against the table.
Of course Diabound was added as one of Kat’s skills, though it worked more like a magic summoning rather than a real Ka here. This Diabound was nothing but a copy made for the game. However, since Kat was the user, his form would be influenced by her. And Bakura didn’t expect their naga to look…. Like this. Damn it. Bakura’s Ka was strong, intimidating, and dangerous looking. He didn’t look like a stupid noodle someone would have painted a face on.
But not like Bakura could say anything about it. It was Kat’s version of the Thief King, and as long as the game played she could do whatever she wanted with it. Bakura crossed their arms and sighed, leaning back on their table as they looked at the three bodies asleep in front of them. Then they looked down, where the ttrpg map was still present, with three figures now placed on the inside of the cathedrale whose roof had been put aside. While the shadow game allowed Bakura to do about everything they wanted, complexifying the map and all, they still liked for the diorama to be as accurate as possible to their vision. Thankfully Ryou had already a lot of elements ready, Bakura just had to adjust everything to their liking. They looked at a room a bit further in the Cathedrale where two figures were waiting for the group. They smiled. Well, while for once their goal was to have the party win this game, Bakura would still have their little revenge against Kat for making such a ridiculous Diabound.
Back inside the game, Ryou was looking at Kek’s bleeding arm.
“How are you feeling?”
“It hurts,” Kek admitted. “But somehow I have the feeling it should hurt more, you know.”
Ryou smiled softly as he started a healing spell. “Well. It’s easy to forget it because everything is so realistic, but in the end it’s still a game. If we were to feel the pain as high as it should be, we probably wouldn’t be able to make good progress.”
Kek frowned. “That gives me the feeling that the thief is going easy on us,” he said before looking at his arm that was now fully healed. “I can handle pain.”
“I know,” Ryou said before kissing his forehead. “But that doesn’t mean you have to.”
Marik looked at the two, a bit uneasy. He cleared his throat to get their attention, but more precisely Kek’s.
“Thanks… For earlier. He would have gotten me without you.”
(continued from here)
Kat heaved a sigh of relief as the naga uncoiled itself from around her and Kek.
“Wait. Isn't that… But it looks…”
Kat ignored Ryou as she leapt towards the ka and wrapped her arms around its snake head, squealing in delight.
“You saved the day, Dia!” she said happily, giving the naga the praise it deserved.
Ryou blinked in astonishment.
“So that is Diabound.”
“Well of course it is,” Kat stated, wondering why Ryou looked so surprised. “I figured if I’m the Thief King, then that means being able to summon Diabound.”
“That makes sense, but I’m just a little confused as to why he looks…different.”
Kat blinked a few times and stepped back to get a better look at the naga.
“I don’t know what you mean? It looks exactly like Kura’s.”

Kaeya x male! reader
Genshin Impact Masterlist
TW: it wasn't planned, but it got a bit sexual, like maybe 4/10 on the scale. I IS SORRY- pls don't hate me-
---
Teasing
Kaeya started to give the young knight suggestive glances early on in their acquaintanceship, trying to use his charm on (Y/N) in general to wrap him around his finger. He never thought he'd develope romantic feelings for the young man.
But there they sat, at a table for two at Good Hunter. Kaeya proped up his head with his arm as he smiled at his boyfriend with half lidded eyes. (Y/N) looked up from his map and rolled his eyes when he saw the expression of the blue-haired male. "Do you need something, deary?", the (Y/HC)-haired asked, before he shifted his gaze to the paper in his hands again and drew circles around some areas.
Kaeya pouted playfully, "I mean, I didn't invite you here so you can give your attention to a piece of paper.", the Cavalry Captain grabbed the map and tugged on it slightly. (Y/N) chuckled, "Are you jealous?", he asked, raising a brow as he glanced up at Kaeya.
"Me? Jealous? Of paper? Don't be ridiculous, sweetheart.", the blue-haired male leaned back into his chair and laid an arm on the backrest, left his other hand on the table, "I merely hoped to have those (Y/EC) eyes on me."
The honorary knight let out a short laugh as he folded up his map. He took Kaeya's hand in his, brushing his thumb over the back of his hand. "No worries. You'll have more than just my gaze on you soon enough...", he whispered, after leaning over the table a bit.
The Cavalry Captain closed his eyes and looked away, something he did when he was flustered. Kaeya didn't expect his boyfriend to say something like this, when there were so many people around that might hear him. (Y/N) smirked, satisfied with the reaction he got.
Kaeya however, wasn't satisfied at all and tried to turn the tables, "Oh? Is that so? I think before then my patience is long gone and I just take what I want." He leaned over the table too, their faces only a few centimeters away from each other.
The smirk on (Y/N)'s face grew a bit and he leaned in a bit more, his and Kaeya's lips brushed each other slightly as he purred, "Really? Are you sure you can keep your words this time? I can still remember your face from last time..."
They remained in this position for a few more seconds, a slight blush on Kaeya's cheeks, before (Y/N) leaned back into his chair as if nothing happened. The blue-haired male chuckled quietly, he seemed to loose this one, wether he wanted to believe it or not.
Diluc, who had to watch the scenario towards the end, sighed quietly when he could finally approach the couple, a list of the daily missions in his hand he was supposed to pick up for (Y/N). A few weeks ago the three of them, plus Venti, started to do the missions together and collect some resources on the way. Whenever Diluc was too busy, either Razor or Bennett filled his place.
When the red-haired man got close enough, (Y/N) noticed him and greeted him with a smile. "Hey, Diluc! Ah, thanks for picking them up. Now we just have to wait for Venti." Kaeya laughed, "That could take a while."
---
The honorary knight hissed, holding the arrow that is stuck in his bleeding arm. He was on his way, with Kaeya, to the cathedral to let Barbara heal him. "This goddamn archer...", he cursed under his breath, "Why are they shooting from where they stand instead of coming closer to get stuck in Ventis wind swirl thing, huh??"
The Cavalry Captain smiled, as he listened to the complaints of his boyfriend. (Y/N) didn't loose his cool very often, which is why Kaeya found this moment rather amusing. Plus, they were already walking up the stairs to the cathedrale and it took way more than an arrow in the upper arm to take (Y/N) down.
Nonetheless, Barbara let out a screech of concern when she laid her eyes on the (Y/EC)-eyed male's arm. "Oh my goodness! (Y/N)!" The young woman walked up to the couple with quick steps and places a hand hesitantly under the injury. (Y/N) wanted to calm her down, but he was still angry he got hit by a simple arrow, from a simple hilichurl. The annoyed expression on the honory knight's face concerned the idol only further.
Kaeya smiled at Barbara, "He's alright, he's just irritated over the fact our enemies don't run into our comerade's attacks.", he said with a teasing tone. (Y/N) pretended he didn't hear, but made a mental note for later.
Barbara didn't know what to reply to that statement, so she just asked Kaeya to carefully pull out the arrow so she could heal (Y/N).
---
With a rather loud sigh (Y/N) plopped down on his and Kaeya's bed. He crawled to his side of the bed and laid on his side, his eyes fixated on Kaeya, who was just taking off his top. A teasing smirk appeared on Kaeya's face, after he turned around and noticed the gaze of his lover, "Like what you see, my prince?", he put a hand on his hip and walked towards the bed with slow steps and sat down sideways next to the (Y/HC)-haired male, supporting himself with his arm.
"I hope you didn't forget about your promise. Otherwise I suppose I have to put my own words into practice.", he purred with half lidded eyes. (Y/N) smiled, the same expression on his face, and placed his hand on Kaeya's hip, brushed his thumb over his skin, before he pulled him closer.
"Of course I didn't forget, sugar...", he whispered and pressed a kiss on the lips of his partner, "But after that comment back there, I don't think you deserve it."
Kaeya was surprised at first, stuttered out a few words, before he caught himself. "You're so mean...", a smile reappeared on his lips, "I suppose I have to take it myself then."
(Y/N)'s grip on Kaeya's hip tightened slightly as he looked at him with a teasing grin.
"Good luck with that, pretty boy."

sweet enough?
Summary: All John wanted was to kill his target and get home, but he ended up meeting the most fascinating woman, who took him out for a Milkshake after she watched him kill his target. Crazy? Maybe. But John wanted to get to know her anyway.
Pairing: John Wick / F!Reader
Wordcount: 2.049
warnings: Violence.
A/N: This is a request I got a while back from @raven-black102: I have a request. I was wondering if maybe you can make a john wick X Reader who is basically like Harley Quinn and is also an assassin?
Masterlist
Taglist:
@ladyreapermc/ @theolsdalova / @greenmanalishi / @itsmydreamlifethings / @palaiasaurus64 / @celestial-vomit / @penwieldingdreamer/ @meetmeinthematinee / @hisdeadwife / @fanficsrusz / @mrrightismrreeves /@its-jb86
It had been 3 hours since John sat down in the far corner of the restaurant. He was planning on waiting until his target finished his dinner and stepped out to go to the toilet and just quickly kill him. He had a date with a glass of Bourbon and the documentary series he had been hooked on lately. He wasn't even sure why he had taken the contract. Out of habit, he guessed. Rolling his eyes as he heard the laugh of the woman his target had been getting handsy on in the last hours, he sighed.
His target was a white man in his mid-forties who had a little too much insight on the high table without actually being a member. So they wanted him gone. And quickly. That's why they called John.
He hadn't counted on the woman who was with his target though. She was beautiful. Long curls of amber brown hair ran down over her right shoulder, exposing her neckline that showed a colorful tattoo of a phoenix. Her midnight blue dress that sparkled with every move she made exposed as much of her ivory skin as was appropriate. At least as long as she didn't turn in her seat, the fabric of her dress falling to the side, exposing her right leg completely, the slit going up to her waist. John was pretty sure she wasn't wearing any underwear under this dress.
Shaking his head her ordered himself another beer.
He should focus on his target an, not on his company. Her laugh reached his ears again and he looked, catching her green eyes as she looked straight at him. She looked bored, her eyes wicked. He raised an eyebrow at her making the dark red painted lips curve into a grin and wink at him before she turned her head to talk to his target again.
It was 45 minutes later when his target finally got up from his seat. John had been close to canceling the contract for today and trying it tomorrow. It wasn’t like he was focusing on his target anyway. He couldn't remember the last time he had been so fascinated by a woman. There was something about her that caught his attention on so many levels, it's gotten nearly frustrating for him.
Emptying his beer he got up from his seat as the woman got up too and followed his target. Slowly John followed her, her hips swinging with every step she took. She stopped in front of the men's restroom, turning her head to wink at John before she stepped in and closed the door.
Frowning John stepped closer to the door, listening when he heard something dull hit the floor. Opening the door he saw his target on the floor, the woman on top of him, holding him down with her legs around his neck. It was the sexiest thing John had ever seen.
“Did you think hiring all these barely legal girls as your secretary would give you all the rights to have your disgusting way with them?” She asked in distaste while the man on the floor was fighting for air.
“Answer me!” She demanded, her palm slapping his cheek.
“Oh, how silly... You can't” She giggled. John leaned with his back on the closed-door watching her. She seemed to loosen her grip on him as John heard him cough.
“You crazy bitch...” He spat out. John heard her sigh.
“I wasn't a crazy bitch 10 minutes ago when you said you wanted to ruin me in the men's restroom, yet here we are... In the men's restroom... And I'm about to ruin you...” She hummed.
“But I can't do it like I wanted to because I feel like asking tall, dark, sexy and broody behind me out for a milkshake and what I planned to do to you would ruin this dress so...” She turned around, her eyes finding John's.
“Care to help me out please?” She blinked up at John, giving him her sweetest smile. John shrugged, reaching for his weapon and walked slowly over to them. John saw the eyes of the man widening as John came into view, making her grin.
“Ohhhh you know each other? How exciting!” She clapped her hands once.
John held his gun in his right hand, holding his left out for her.
“What a gentleman.” She sighed and smiled as she took his hand, letting John help her up. As soon as her legs around his target's neck loosened when she got on her feet, he tried to get away. John let his fingers linger against her for a moment, making her bite her lip before he turned and put the back of his arm under the guy's chin, pinning him against the wall.
“The high table sends his regards,” John whispered before he brought some distance between them and shot the guy between his eyes, letting him fall to the ground as he pocketed his gun in.
“That was hot.” The woman behind him groaned. John straightened his suit as he turned around, watching her sitting on the sink. He raised an eyebrow at her.
“So what history did you have with this guy?” She asked. John reached for his phone, about to order someone to clean this mess up.
“I didn't.” He said, slowly walking over to her.
“But he knew who you were...”
“That's one of the reasons he had to die,” John explained, pressing the phone to his ear. The call connected right away.
“This is Wick. I need to make a Dinner reservation for One. Cathedrale Restaurant. Yes... I'll wait outside.” He ended the call.
“Wick... As in John Wick?” She asked, making him nod.
“Oh my God. Wow. I'm such a fan.” She grinned, making John chuckle.
“And your name is...?” John asked.
“Oh. How rude of me. I'm Phoenix...” She hopped off the sink.
“That your real name?” John asked making her giggle.
“No.” She grinned, opening the door. John looked at her.
“What? Come on. Killing people always makes me crave for something sweet.” She explained before she stepped out of the restroom.
John watched her as she absolutely devoured her milkshake, making the most sinful noises as she almost inhaled the sweet liquid.
“You two need some time alone?” John asked, sipping on his strawberry milkshake. He hadn't one of those in forever.
She practically moaned, her arm linked with John's as they walked through Central Park. It had taken them almost a 40 Minute cab drive to get to this milkshake place. She had told him almost every single detail of her life on the cab drive, while John only listened, loving to hear her talk.
They had almost the same background. Being practically raised to be killing machines with the exception that she had killed all of the people who had forced her in this, including her Ex who apparently was the only man she ever loved. It was weird to know one's life story an hour after sharing the first word, but it came naturally to both of them.
Phoenix had heard so much about John. She hadn't been kidding when she told him, she was a fan. He didn’t seem like much of a talker. That's why she kept talking nonstop, trying to fill the silence. She hated silence, always needing to do or say something.
There wasn't even a drop of blood on his crisp white dress shirt as they walked through Central Park. Him in a well-fitted suit, her in her blue dress. She had removed her high heels from her feet, walking on bare feet on the grass, her dress now so long it dragged over the ground. John was a head taller than her like that.
“I still need to find someone to make me feel as satisfied as this milkshake.” She said looking up at John who now grinned, but said nothing.
“Oh please! That one was easy.. Come on... Say it.” She begged, stopping in front of him.
“I'm not going to say it.” John shook his head laughing before he closed his lips around the straw of his milkshake, sucking hard. Stepping closer to him she raised an eyebrow.
“What grown man drinks strawberry milkshakes?” She asked, sucking the straw he just released between her lips, making sure to hollow her cheeks just like she would if it was something else...
She heard him breathe in deep, his hand coming to rest on her hip. She tried hard not to shudder as his fingers connected with her bare skin on her hip, where the slit of her dress ended.
“A man who likes sweet things,” John whispered before he leaned down and kissed her. She sighed as his lips found hers, the hand that wasn't holding her milkshake coming around to hold on to his neck, trying to steady herself as he deepened the kiss. She had never been kissed like that. And she had never felt like that. Her skin tingling, her stomach fluttering, her womanhood screaming to be touched.
Opening her eyes to look in his she spotted two guys behind John, guns in their hands. Slowly she let her hand in his neck wander down his back, reaching for his gun.
“Duck.” She whispered against his lips and John responded quickly, bending down as she pulled out his gun, shooting one of the guys in his eye. John turned around, coming to stand behind her as she let the gun fall to the ground and sprinted towards the other guy who looked confused.
With her milkshake still in her hand she brought her leg up, kicking the guy with full force in the chin, making him fall down. Bringing her feet down on his throat she put all her weight on it, making the guy gasp and fight for air.
“It's not nice to interrupt us like that...” She said, bringing the straw of her milkshake she was still holding to her lips and took a long sip while she held the guy down with just one of her feet.
John was shocked. And aroused. Slowly he walked forward, picking up his gun on the way. Looking around he couldn't see anyone, her first gunshot probably having scared away any people around.
“They want your head Phoenix...” The guy spat out, still fighting for air.
“Then they maybe should send some better men, don't you think?” She grinned, handing John her Milkshake.
“Please be a sweetheart and hold this for me.” She smiled at him as John took the shake.
“Now... I'm not gonna kill you..” She hummed.
“I'm just gonna hurt you enough to make you remember it's a bad idea to come after me.” She bend down whispering.
“And make sure to tell your boss that if he wants me...” She brought her hands up to the guys face.
“He should have come after me himself.” She grinned wickedly before a agonizing scream erupted the park.
“Can you give me the number of this Charlie guy? He seems to be the answer to all my body hiding problems.” She grinned up at John, who had both of his arms around her, after Charlie had taken care of the bodies. She really, really hadn't intended on killing the second guy. It was really... REALLY an accident.
“I bet he will be thrilled.” John smirked. He felt her hand sneaking on his ass, making him raise his eyebrows.
“Thank you for protecting my milkshake.” She smiled.
“I might have taken a sip or two as you punched the living hell out of that guy.” John confessed making her gasp in acted shock.
“Was it better than your strawberry milkshake?” She asked.
“I still prefer sweeter...” He leaned down to kiss her hard making her moan against his mouth.
“Sweet enough?” She asked against his lips as they parted.
“Getting there.” He grinned, making her roll her eyes before she brought some distance in between them, concentrating on her milkshake instead of the man next to her.

Le début de l’aventure
Lundi 31 octobre,
What else ?

I surely won’t make friends and people are going to call me names but all the drama around Notre Dame upsets me.
I rarely go politic, I don’t like that, but did you know the french President had to make a difficult speech yesterday? Some announcements that were bounded to make french people riot and how fast did M. Macron jump on this news and cancel his speech! How convenient. The french governement despertely needs a national tragedy to try to bring people back together. I deplore that quick and unashamed recuperation of the news.
Now I don’t deny the horror of what happened in Notre Dame, don’t get me wrong. But it’s just a fire. It made a lot of damages in the cathedrale but let’s not forget that it’s only material damages.
It’s impressive and it happens in one of the most known and visited building of Paris and of France, but if it’s that important for the Country, why don’t the governement puts the money on the table to help rebuild it instead of immediately asking for private people to donate already as firemen are still at work? But what can you expect from a governement who dares to put its monuments on a lottery to know what masterpiece should be cared of?
So now, of course I’m touched by the emotion and by the immediat support people are showing all over the world for Notre Dame. It’s wonderful. But I think it’s surely not the most important thing that happened in the world yesterday evening and it maybe not needs to be all over the front page of newspaper all over the world.
Let’s remember that above all, nobody died, nobody was wounded, art pieces have been saved, religious relics have been saved.
Cathedrales have seen worse. It’s litteraly just a roof.
notre dame is burning.
this is ok.
it has happened before. it will happen again. it has been lost before. it will be lost again. and again. and again. and again. art and architecture are transient, and temporary, and 850 years may seem like a lot to the individual, who will live maybe 100 if they are very lucky and very healthy, but even the pyramids at saqqara have only existed for about 6000 years and that’s still not all that much, if you consider the grand scheme of things.
yes, this is terrible. as someone who is deeply religious and literally a professional historian with a focus on art and architecture, this is terrible. im mourning. im gutted. im horrified and upset and miserable. but.
it’s not over.
victor hugo wrote hunchback because notre dame du paris was in the process of collapsing and falling apart, and revitalized the entire world’s focus and love for this church, and that was not even 200 years ago. it led to it being renovated.
the roof has fallen in. the scars of fires are on its buttresses. the rose window has fallen out. the beams and piers have collapsed. the spire has toppled. the stones have suffered, and will suffer again, but it is not gone.
renovation work is essential. sometimes things collapse and burn and break and have to come back. it’s not a terrorist attack, it’s renovation, an accident, but we have so much evidence, history, carefully documented everything on one of the most studied places in the world.
it’s not the end.
#mine#notre dame#i can't stop thinking about all the horrors that surely took place yesterday evening all over the world stuff way worse#and the only front page we have today is a building burning#people are at war#people are abused#people are dying#and the front page is an accidental fire#it's beautiful how people show support#and i thank them all for that kindness#but i can't stop thinking that it's misplaced#and i'm vomiting at the politic recuperation of the drama

Narbonne is a delightful small town in southern France with a Roman past.
The Canal de le Robine, which links the town to the Canal du Midi on its north side, has pretty bridges, shady trees and picturesque walkways. It has a long history and a lively present. Narboone is known for its seaside resort and the town is really close to the border of Spain. Narbonne‘s exceptional sights include its cathedral and former archbishop palace and is now a popular stop off for boaters. Read our complete list of the best things to do while visiting here:
1. Les Halle de Narbonne
Strategically located in the city, Les Halle de Narbonne is a unique covered market in a Baltard style pavilion. The market house over 70 stalls consisting of wine and bar merchants, bakers, delicatessens, pastries, poultry merchants, butchers, greengrocers, caterers and fishmongers. Tourists and visitors should not miss this fabulous indoor market. Every morning the market welcomes hungry gourmets, visitors and cooks. Local producers are at your disposal, offering advice on how to prepare food and how to choose the best products. Each morning, they will come to the market to display their skills and products.
Les Halle de Narbonne is famed for its outstanding variety of goods, lively energy and colorful atmosphere. From flowers, cheese and vegetables, to herbs, seafood and spices, you can get almost anything from this market. Besides, it is also a place to have your breakfast, brunch or lunch. Most noteworthy are the small informal restaurants, where you can enjoy fresh oysters or grilled meat (literally from the butchers nearby). Besides, check out La Forum, a nice restaurant and bar owned by a family of cheerful rugby veterans. Try the steak tartare or skewers of beef and drink while relaxing and cooling down at La Forum. This typically charming Southern France market is definitely worth a visit when you are in Narbonne.
2. Cathedrale Saint Just
Cathedrale Saint Just is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the town of Narbonne. It is a national monument dedicated to Saint Justin. Situated in the heart of the city, it is Narbonne’s most distinctive landmark. Only the towers are completed, as the cathedral was actually only partial constructed and was halted in the 14th-century. The high gothic style cathedral of Saint-Pasteur and Saint-Just is inspired by the great cathedral of Northern France. Its most striking feature is the unique choir.
Besides, the side chapel dedicated to our Lady of Bethlehem has a 14th-century altar in painted stone, and the Treasury, also known as the acoustic hall, displays a rich collection of liturgical objects such as tapestries, ivories and gold. This unique and spectacular building is a must visit place in Narbonne for tourists.
3. Fontfroide Abbey
The Abbey de Fontfroide or Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Fontfroide is one of the best preserved and largest Cistercian monasteries in Europe near the Spanish border. The monastery is about a 10-minute drive south-west of Narbonne in Le Pays Cathar. It is a patrimonial, cultural and spiritual place for visitors to attend. This 12th-century abbey is completely preserved with all its buildings. The church of ochre sandstone stands at the end of a little road with scrub and cypress trees. Apart from that, you can explore the various gardens within the vicinity.
The completely restored 16th-century preserved terraced garden is one of the largest rose gardens in Southern France. If you come to the gardens between May and September, you will get to see around 30,000 bushes. There is also a shop and caveau nearby, where you can buy souvenirs as a remembrance. If you are hungry or thirsty, there is a restaurant and bar close by. Table de Fontfroide not only serves wines of the Abbey but also a Mediterranean menu based on fresh products.
4. Narbonnaise Natural Park
The Regional Natural Park of Narbonnaise extends along the coastline of the Aude. It is not an ordinary park as it is made up of maritime Corbieres and an extensive lagoon complex. It is one of the most unspoilt natural sites of such diversity and magnitude, bordering the Mediterranean. In total, 300 species of birds and 2,000 species of plants are sheltered here, of which 6 species are of international interest.
While you are here, as you enter the French Department of Aude, you will reach the protected area of La Narbonnaise. You will be plunged in the cultural landscape with its sea resorts, pristine coastline, wetlands and rocky terrain. Each offers tourists a wide range of activities where nature enthusiasts, lovers of winter sports and hikers will be thrilled. This area is home to a great biodiversity of extraordinary landscapes of vineyards, flora and fauna, villages, natural areas and towns. It is indeed a land of many faces. Apart from that, visitors can also make use of its heritage accommodation and walking trails.
5. Donjon Gilles Aycelin
This dungeon was built between 1290 and 1311 by Archbishop Gilles Aycelin. This historical building rises 4 levels until the upper terrace. This attraction offers tourists a panoramic view of the Pyrenees and the Corbieres, the city, as well as the coast. In actual reality, this attraction is not a dungeon, but a fortified tower. You can challenge yourself to climb the 167 steps along the spiral staircase to the top. It is not for the faint hearted but it is worth a climb to get a fantastic 360-degree view of the towns, city and cathedrals over the roofs of Narbonne. There is also a small museum with some Roman remains onsite here.
6. Archbishop's Palace
The palace of the archbishops is a must-see monument in Narbonne. The Archbishop Palace was first designed in the 12th-century and was intended to create a safe place of comfort for residents whilst under attack. It consists of military, religious, and civil buildings that were added through the centuries. It is essentially made up of 3 tall towers including the Palais Neuf and the Palais Vieux, a keep by Gilles Aycelin and a lovely example of late 13th-century building work. In recent times, the palace has become the home of three museums, namely the Holy Roman Museum, the Archaeology Museum, and the Art and History Museum. If you want to visit all of these museums it is only possible with a golden ticket.
7. Basilique Saint Paul
Basilique Saint Paul was the first Gothic church in Narbonne and one of the oldest in the South. Built on the tomb of the first bishop of Narbonne, Saint Paul, it resembles an early cemetery (3rd and 4th-century). This religious building has the characteristics of present Gothic art and Romanesque art, curiously mixed in architecture. Within the church itself, there is a stoup with a carving of a small frog lurking at the bottom under the water.
This is indeed one of the greatest sights in the whole of France. The cathedral has never been completed even after hundreds of years, but it is still beautiful through all parts, both inside and out. The stained glass windows are fantastic, with great impressive design and the cloister too is majestic.
8. Saint-Just and Saint-Pasteur Narbonne Cathedral
One of the very best things to do in Narbonne is to visit the city’s impressive cathedral. Or rather, the part of the cathedral which was actually built! After all, wander into one of the highest Gothic naves in Southern France today and you can expect to find just a quarter of a cathedral. The original plans for the cathedral were much more extensive.
However, time and financial constraints, as well as an unwillingness to destroy the medieval city walls (which no longer exist) were all contributing factors. Now, the cathedral is free to visit, though you’ll have to pay a few euros in order to enter the Cathedral’s treasury which contains several treasures including medieval manuscripts and plenty of reliquary boxes
9. Visit the Roman Horreum
All that is left of Narbonne’s antiquity past today is a small slice of the Roman Via Domitia (the most important road in Southern France- then Gaul- during the Roman Empire) in the city’s main town square, as well as the underground vaults of the Roman Horreum. The former grain storage stretches out for an extensive distance under the city and is now an interesting museum exploring the city’s seafaring past.
10. Bishop’s Palace (Archaeological Museum & Art History)
Now a museum housing countless artworks and precious paintings, the beautiful façade of the Bishop’s Palace can be found in the main town square. If you’re interested in learning more about prehistory in the Languedoc-Roussillon region (which is now part of the wider administrative area of Occitanie), then you simply must head to the city’s archaeological museum. Nearby, the Art History Museum is filled with plenty of pretty artwork.

Paris, France
Day two of vacation began with a early morning Swiss breakfast, complete with the most delicious unpasteurized-cheese you could imagine and hot chocolate better than any Swiss Miss packet you've ever microwaved in your own kitchen. After breakfast, we wheeled our suitcases onto a tram and headed for the train station, where we caught a high speed train over to Paris.
Floor in the Palace of Veresallies
We had four seats all together, rows of two facing each other with a table between us. I caught up on season seven Game of Thrones while French country whizzed by outside. Zurich to Paris is around 400 miles and takes about eight hours on an ordinary train. However, if you hop on a high speed train (traveling at 180mph), you can find yourself buying macaroons by the dozen in just four! We were buying macaroons by early afternoon. Once in Paris, we walked over to our Airbnb, dropped suitcases and walked to the local grocery store. We spent 3 nights and 3 days in Paris, so we wanted to stock up on some Parisian essentials: meats, cheeses, and wine! We came home with multiple bottles of wine, soda and some sparkling lemonade for me, along with every kind of meat, cheese and macaroon imaginable. We even stopped in a bakery for some baguettes on our walk back home.
The baguette happiness is REAL.
We got home and went to town.
and by town, I mean ATE!
Meats, cheese, baguettes, macaroons, and chocolate covered orange slices for dessert!
The rest of our time in France unfolded like this -
Bus Tour Yes we were these people...
Paris is a huge city with a ton to see, so this was the perfect thing to do after a day of travel and help our tongues switch from German to French. This bus met all our needs, it was a quick 90-minute tour that would take us by all the hot spots in the City of Lights. The tour took place at night with an open roof, so we really did get to soak up the lights and see Paris when it is most beautiful. We traveled past the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre-Dame, Musée d'Orsay, Champs-Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe, along with many more!
Largest museum in the world. To look at every piece of art it would take you 100 days...but only if you spent 30 seconds on each piece.
hehe, such a tourist. I’M SORRY.
Crap photo but on cloud nine!
Versallies
Versallies was at the top of my list when it came to sights to see in Paris, so on our first full day this was my must-do. If you want to visit yourself, note that the Palace is closed on Monday’s and the fountains only run on certain days of the week (select weekends and Tuesdays). The gardens are so extensive that running all 32 fountains every day would be too expensive for the city to maintain!
Okay Louis, I see you.
The Orangery is filled with lemon trees, oleander, palm and pomegranate trees.
Apollos Fountain
I know that piece, we learned about it in Rome!
Hall of Mirrors
The Palace has 700 rooms!
Cathedrale Notre Dame A classic sight to see when in Paris! We tacked this on in the afternoon the day we visited Versailles, you don't need much time here! We took the metro over and were dropped right out front of the Basilica. Entrance into the Church is free and you can choose between may ways to experience Notre-Dame. There are guided tours (through third parties) and audio tours (right at the information desk), or you may choose to pay a fee and climb the towers, perhaps visit the crypt or simply walk around. Appropriate dress is required, no bare shoulders or showing of the knees. I was dressed in long sleeves and shorts with a scarf tied around my waist to cover my legs. We had no trouble with our backpacks or cameras, however no luggage or flash photography is allowed.
Sacré-Cœur
From one church to the next we made our way up to Sacré-Cœur all in the same afternoon. This church is considered a minor basilica and it is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sacré-Cœur is on a wicked hill (over 130 meters of elevation), so defiantly explore options such as the bus or metro (we used Uber). Minor or not, add this to your itinerary, the views of Paris alone are worth this visit!
Raining and not prepared, but smiling anyway!
Romance is in the air!
The Eiffel Tower
The way our itinerary worked out, we had to choose between either summiting the Eiffel Tower or visiting the Louvre. (Don't only give yourself two and a half days for Paris!) We chose the Louvre and felt that photos underneath the tower were satisfactory enough.
the good ol' "I was here!"
The number one thing that traveling has taught me this year is to get to sites early and forget the sleep (you can sleep on your flight when it’s all over). We got up early on our last day, had breakfast in a cafe and walked to the Eiffel Tower around 8:00am. Early starts are one of the best ways to have pictures free of other people. We got our picture and were on our way to the Louvre!
Red, white and blue...but for France or for America? Lets go with France!
Louvre
The Louvre, what a fabulous way to spend your morning! This was one of my favorite things we did on the trip as whole, let alone just our time in Paris! We did a morning "highlights" tour with the company Fat Tire. Before, we have used The Roman Guy for our private tours, but Fat Tire was just as great of an experience. I would highly recommend using a tour group to make your way through the Louvre, we were able to skip the line and receive a thorough overview of what will typically take you 100 days. Our guide was extremely passionate about the works of art and really made our time enjoyable.
Travel Trip - Visit Greece before you visit Italy, before you visit France. Art and history works in this order and your travels should too. We were freaking out that everything we had learned about in Rome last month was all connecting to our tour in the Louvre. To see the "Judgement of Paris" in Rome and then to be standing in front of Aphrodite holding the golden apple in the Louvre (IN PARIS) was such a wild experience.
Geeking out over art dont mind me.
Montparnasse Tower
On our last night in Paris we ventured up to the top floor of Montparnasse Tower. This is only high-rise building in the city and it has an observation deck on the 56th floor known to have the most beautiful view of Paris. In 2008 this tower was voted the worlds second ugliest building and after its construction in 1969 it received so much criticism that now the construction of buildings over seven stories high are banned. So, for 17 EUR, I highly recommend buying this ticket because this is the only view in Paris were you cannot see it (hence, most beautiful view of Paris)! Jokes aside, the view of Paris from the Montparnasse Tower is absolutely breathtaking. You’ll experience a 360 degree view of the city, including the Eiffel Tower, which to me is the most special part. Where as most people head up the Eiffel Tower to view the city, I promise you this is the view you want,
it is Paris as a whole
the City of Lights and a tower of gold.
